Hugh Spinney is a Vernon based singer-songwriter originally hailing from a small northern town in BC. Raised in this close-knit community, Hugh’s passion for music was ignited at a young age. At just 14 years old, he began writing his own songs, inspired by music he heard at school dances, on radio and at home. This included music by the rock bands of the 60s, country and jazz. Soon he was playing in a band and playing music at those school dances.

As he grew older, Hugh continued to work on the craft of songwriting. A key step in Hugh’s musical journey was his involvement in a songwriting work group. Meeting once a month for several years, this group became a creative haven for Hugh, providing him with invaluable feedback and support. The work group played a crucial role in advancing his craft, pushing him to explore new depths of expression and refine his unique songwriting voice.

In 2019, Hugh released his first solo album, Northern Sunrise, marking a significant milestone in his musical life. The album showcased his exceptional songwriting abilities, entertaining listeners with its heartfelt and sometimes comic lyrics. The album delivers soul-stirring melodies in an eclectic variety of musical styles. The song Evil Twin Brother was a Semi Finalist at the International Songwriting Competition.  Hugh Spinney has established himself as a talented singer-songwriter gaining appreciation from audiences and respect from peers. His music transcends boundaries, touching the hearts of listeners from all walks of life
